Flavia + Tayron
How did you meet?
Tay and I met when we were 17. We first connected through Myspace, after his brother encourage him to add me. I met his brother that same year at my aunt’s wedding, they had been friends for a long time. It was actually my aunt who told me to accept the friend request, so I guess they both played a part in bringing Tay and I together! We spoke for months on msn and over the phone before we ever met face to face. It was actually quite nice, because we were able to build a friendship and get to know each other well before starting anything serious. We finally met at an underage event, were we danced all night! There was definitely a strong attraction as soon as we locked eyes, but also that familiarity and friendship that we had developed, which has only continued to grow over time!
Tells us about your wedding...
Our wedding day was a rustic themed epic family affair. I’ve always loved natural tones and greenery, so when we were looking for a venue, my goal was to find a place that was surrounded by natural beauty. When we found Barrett Lane Function Centre, we both immediately fell in love. To complement the stunning venue, we chose a colour palette of ivory, blush and nude, with gum foliage throughout all our décor.
We had both the ceremony and the reception at the same venue. We were married in the beautiful gardens over-looking the vineyards. My cousin played the saxophone for my walk down the aisle and my sister sang during the signing of our marriage certificate, it was truly special. After the ceremony guests were invited for canapés and drinks, whilst the bridal party went to do the photoshoot.
We both come from passionate families that love to party and dance. It was important for the reception to be a reflection of us and our culture. We broke from tradition and decided to have the dinner and formalities all together, no dancing in between. We did the cutting of the cake, speeches and dessert all before 9pm. After dinner and the formalities were over, we had our first dance, which opened up the dance floor for rest of the night, with no interruptions. It was an epic night, full of great food, drinks and dancing with our closest family and friends, you could truly feel the love in the room!
What made your wedding unique?
We didn’t follow a traditional wedding timeline, which we loved and so did our guests. It meant more time for partying and dancing! We also went for personalised menus rather than place cards, to minimise the clutter on the tables. We also held the whole wedding in the same venue, which is less common. Our venue was also BYO alcohol, which meant we could supply more variety of drinks for our guests, with plenty of spirits, beers and wines available.
What was the most memorable moment of your wedding?
There were so many great moments that night, the funniest would have to be Tay’s nonno trying to get low on the dancefloor and attempting to Salsa with my mum haha. The most heart-warming moment was definitely our first dance, we did a mix of an Italian and a Latin song, which was a complete reflection of us and how much we embrace and love each other’s culture. The most memorable moment was definitely Tay’s speech, he was so nervous to begin with, but he did an amazing job, people are still talking about that speech!
