Kirstin + Steve

How did you meet?

Steve and I met at a mutual friend’s house party in January 2015. My friend Phoebe was so excited because she had “two hot housemates” to introduce me to. Upon arriving at the party I was introduced to Simon, who while very lovely and handsome was a good head shorter than me. She assured me that Steve was taller and would be home shortly. He had not yet arrived, because he was coming home from a friend’s wedding weekend away in Mudgee. Towards the end of the night when I was getting ready to head home, Steve walked in. We spent the rest of the night chatting and not long after began dating. It worked out perfectly as Simon is Steve's best friend and his best man at our wedding.

Tell us about your wedding…

For our wedding what we wanted more than anything was a big party! We tossed around lots of ideas, including eloping to Greece, getting married in Steve’s parent’s garden, or something smaller in a park. But eventually we decided to go ahead with the 'big white wedding' (Steve was more inclined to this than Kirstin!). What was most important to us in the end was having all our friends and family in one place, plenty of food, booze, and that everyone have a great time.

We settled on Mali Brae Farm after touring a few wedding venues in the area. We loved the relaxed vibe combined with the polished look, and knew from friends and family who had attended weddings there that the food was incredible. We also really liked the idea of the ceremony and reception being in one place.

We got married under the gum trees, and then had beautiful photos taken down at the lake and around the farm. At the same time our guests enjoyed cheese boards and drinks in the pavilion. This was followed by dinner, drinks, and lots of dancing in the main shed.

What was the most memorable part of the night?

Our wedding turned out to be all that we hoped for, and more. My morning started with watching a video Steve had made for me, and a breakfast with my closest girlfriends and female family members while the boys played golf. At the ceremony is was touching to see my dad cry as he walked me down the aisle, which was made even more special as one of the oldest school friends sang our wedding song, 'Lydia Luce - Love me True'.

For the reception, the speeches were fantastic and the dance floor was a hit. Some of the best moments of the evening were definitely had on the dance floor, from Steve's brother-in-law doing the splits, to one of Steve’s friends crying (too many champagnes) and yelling to us.. “Mate you've done it! You've done it!”

We also added special touches in the speeches by having wedding photos of both our parents and grandparents on their wedding day. We wanted the day to feel really personal throughout.

What made your wedding unique?

Even though our wedding was quite traditional, people still come up to us nearly a year later and tell us that the feeling at our wedding was often unlike anything they have experienced at other weddings.

They could feel the love hugely, not just between us, but the love between all our friends and family. We have even had a couple of guest say to us... now don't tell my (insert family member) but your wedding was the best! We are so glad that everyone enjoyed it as much as we did.
