Alana + Corrie
How did you meet?
Our paths crossed eight years ago through some friends of ours who were dating at the time. In an attempt to get things moving forward, Corrie invited me to his 21st birthday party. I arrived to the party with girl gang in tow feeling like the VIP. Corrie proceeded to play hard to get and completely ignored me the entire night. Furious, I was just about to leave the party when the speeches began. Corrie's mate (who I'd never met before) suddenly started mentioning me in his speech and how Corrie never stopped talking about me. From that point, Corrie's game was up and I knew he wasn't as cool as he was acting that night. Nevertheless, Corrie's "treat 'em mean, keep 'em keen" strategy worked; he had won my attention and a first date. He took me to dinner, made me feel like the only girl in the world, and the rest is history.
Tell us about your wedding…
Corrie and I were eager to create an experience where we could eat great food, drink delicious wine and dance the night away with our favourite people. We opted for an elegant garden wedding with a modern romatic feel and classic details. There is so much natural beauty throughout the grounds of Bendooley Estate - we knew as soon as we saw the Homestead and the lakeside garden that we wanted to have our ceremony outdoors. To complement the already beautiful location, our amazing florist created a dramatic floral arch using a palette of soft pink and ivory hues coupled with bold burgundy pops, which worked so well with the Bridesmaids in ivory gowns and the Groomsmen in navy tuxedos.
Another part of Bendooley Estate we fell in love with is the Book Barn - a converted barn with wall-to-wall books making the room feel like your own private library. Above the dining tables hang beautiful wooden beams that made for an opulent canopy of florals, foilage and hanging tealight candles which our guests dined under.
What was the most memorable moment of the night?
We wanted our guests to remember our wedding not only for the thoughtful details but to forever remember how they felt on the day - we wanted the day to be a celebration of love, fun and happiness. To achieve that, we knew choosing the right music was important. Corrie and I were never going to pass up the opprtunity to have a string quartet play at our wedding, so we asked Clear Strings to recite a combination of classical music and modern tunes during the ceremony. For the reception, Lady Red Entertainment nailed the party brief and the dancefloor was packed the entire night (including during an early dance break before formalities and dinner service). There was nothing more heartwarming than to see our friends and family truly enjoying themselves. It made us appreciate that the countless hours of planning such a big event were well-worth the effort.
What was unique about your wedding?
Though different serving styles are becoming more and more popular nowadays, a unique part of our wedding for a large number of our guests was our dinner menu. Corrie and I wanted to create the intimate and homely feeling of one big family gathered around the dinner table, so we opted for a shared plate style rather than a plated three-course meal. Even if you are having a more formal wedding (our dress code was Black Tie), we really recommend this style of dining - it creates a lively atmosphere and is a great way to get people mingling. We also wanted our guests to be able to eat what they wanted, rather than having to negotiate with the person next to them for the steak over the fish!
